The Rain Passive House is designed as a passive house complete with its own rainwater catchment system. The site does not have local infrastructure readily accessible for water supply. As a result, the design was driven by the need to create a large enough roof surface to capture the required amount of rain to support the home. This manifested into the heavy timber column and beam superstructure which supports the large mono-slope roof above. The roof also supports a large rooftop solar array. The program for the home consists of a 2-story single family home with public spaces on the main floor and private spaces on the second floor. The large rooftop and superstructure will allow for future flexibility to the homes design if the client ever desires to extend their home over the second floor rooftop decks.
