S-IAD was established with a goal of discovering the ultimate Synergy inherent within each unique design. The point at which the complex collection of individual elements conform to create their optimized composition. The founder, Graham Ouwerkerk, believes that within every design there is an opportunity to combine the independent complexities of design to attain a result which transcends the expected. Through a commitment to client focused design based on collaboration and intentional communication, S-IAD takes the initiative to deliver a design which appropriately combines client desires, site constraints, sustainable design opportunities, and budget to deliver the best possible project.
Graham Ouwerkerk
Graham’s passion for architecture started at a very young age. It began with small structures on the farm where he grew up from the age of 5. As he grew older his skills increased with his Dad’s guidance in construction, and his Moms natural gifts in design. His Dad taught him how to build, and his Mom taught him the basics of design and aesthetics. By the time he graduated high school he strongly desired to pursue a career as an Architect. He received a Bachelors Degree in International Management as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Lethbridge.
He then went on to receive his Masters in Architecture from the University of Calgary. Previous to the foundation of S-IAD, Graham attained very dynamic experience working at both medium and large firms which were primarily focused on multi-family design. However, he has also been able to work on several single family, commercial and institutional projects.
Graham finds architecture to be the most complicated art form. Maneuvering the “art” of architecture through the myriad of complex constraints we encounter, is a challenge he loves to embrace on every project.
A Dedication to Sustainable Design
At the core of S-IAD is a true commitment to sustainable design. We believe it is our primary responsibility as an architectural firm to demonstrate the very best environmental stewardship. Our founder is the father of 3, and he holds this responsibility very dear to his heart. Graham’s ultimate dream is that every building we design at S-IAD will be a leading example of environmental stewardship and sustainability. To that end he is both a Certified Passive House Designer and a LEED Certified Professional in Building Design and Construction.
