La Jungla Cafeteria was conceived as an open air dining hall perched on the edge of an escarpment in the Amazon Jungle. The client, a not for profit ministry organization, desired to create a trade school on the site which would assist community members with learning skilled trades. The dining hall was one facet of a master plan which includes classrooms, workshops and dormitories. The dining hall itself intends to utilize local construction methods and materials, and was designed with passive techniques to ensure proper shading and passive ventilation. The rooftop will act as a future solar collector assisting in providing electricity to the site. The design takes advantage of the escarpment offering tiered dining areas allowing all diners to have a beautiful view over the breathtaking Amazon Jungle.
